Venus Zine’s 1st Annual Photo Contest: Street Fashion  Issue #45 Issue #45

For our first annual Photo Contest, Venus Zine received over 1,500 entries from talented photographers all over the world. Our esteemed panel of judges selected one winner from each of five different categories—street fashion, music/concert, travel, portrait, and food—which we present in our winter issue (on newsstands now!), along with our readers’ choice and staff favorites.

Since we didn't have room to print 'em, we decided to pull 30 of our favorite runners-up in the street fashion category and share them here. Take a look, and let us know what you think! We'll give our favorite (constructive!) commenter a prize.

photographer: Jami Lin

“A double exposure of two of my friends-- both who are coincidentally named Alex. Taken with my Holga.”

photographer: Pradeep Edussuriya

“Camera love.”

photographer: Joseph Knight

"The submitted photos are of one of my muses, Coco Talon in the urban jungle in search of a Campari & Soda!”

photographer: Jennifer Avello

“I found myself at a young age people watching. This habit manifested itself into this huge fascination I have of people. What inspires them, what makes them tick, the way they perceive themselves to the world. The study of sociology is beyond interesting to me. I think that is why I am so drawn to portraiture and specialize my photography within the genre.”

“These two are one of my favorite people to work with. Their style and fashion sense compliment each other very well. We always have an amazing time and get some great shots when we work together.”

photographer: Lauren D'Angelo

“This photo was taken using a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. It shows the connection between graffiti, and tattoos in the skating community.”

photographer: Alexa Viscius

“This is a portrait of a girl In Bridgeport, Chicago, IL. It was taken on a disposable camera and I love the effect that it gives.”

photographer: Helen Stephens

“This photo was taken in the city of Liverpool, home of The Beatles in the United Kingdom.”

photographer: Volodymyr Zaytsev

“Holding an impromptu photo-shoot on the street during the Wicker Park Friday night rush hour wasn't a particularly smart idea. Have yet to experience another night when I was hollered at so many times. Yet on the bright side, the light flares from passing cars made for an interesting ambiance in the resulting photo.”

photographer: Volodymyr Zaytsev

“After a long night out, the tiring wait to find the beaming yellow light of an available taxi cab was made much more exciting when a zealous cameraman gets involved! The dark alley got lit up by flashes, thinking that its a paparazzi swooning-in onto a celebrity, it didn't take much longer to find a curious taxi driver.”

photographer: Adam Collison

“Fashion, without the street.”

photographer: Adam Collison

“Full of unintentional suggestion and metaphor, the third party interpretations of this piece have been far more interesting than anything that i had originally seen in it... it truly tells its own story(ies).”

photographer: Jim Beckmeyer

“A test shoot with model Jen Proescher. MUA: Staci McLain.”

photographer: Nick Leonard

“This "shoe gazing" photo was taken at First Friday, a monthly art event that happens in downtown Las Vegas- filled with lots of culture. I enjoy this shot because of the variety and color in the footwear.”

photographer: Katreena Dyrek

“This Chicago commuter was in a hurry to get home, but I snapped this shot just in time to get her fabulous outfit!”

photographer: Katreena Dyrek

“I loved this girls look! She had the cute crop, flapper girl headband, red sunglasses, green bag, black converse boots and baggy sweatshirt! I had to stop her on the street and snap a shot!”

photographer: Katreena Dyrek

“I really liked the colors this girl was wearing so I stopped her and took a pic. I think it was nice that the Chicago Damen bus was just caught in the background.”

photographer: Katreena Dyrek

“These guys only stopped for a minute and gave me some attitude but in the end it was worth it because I really like the way this one turned out.”

photographer: Katreena Dyrek

“I met this girl at a birthday party and really liked her look.”

photographer: Katreena Dyrek

“This easy going girl I met at a birthday party let me do a mini photo session. This great shot came out of it. I loved her punk like jacket contrasted with a more dressy ruffled teal tee.”

photographer: Dylan Murphy

“Kelly and her bike!”

photographer: Courtney Bell

“I took this photo of my friend, Sarah, in the bathroom of the tattoo parlor where she was having her chest piece done.”

photographer: Amy Green

“Sporting a Welsh dragon, this lady shows the patriotic side of fashion, I think. Taken with my Canon EOS 400d DSLR, and 50mm lens.”

photographer: Amy Green

“Even in a blizzard, she looks awesome. Taken with a Canon EOS 400D, 50mm lens.”

photographer: Bonnee Rummler

“Besides being the photographer, I personally put together this outfit from my own wardrobe and did both her hair and make-up.”

photographer: Courtney Bell

“This was a little Holgaroid mix-and-match photo project I did with my friends one night. Each photo was shot with my Holga, which was outfitted with a Polaroid instant back.”

photographer: Deonte Welton

“There's a day time look, then there's your night time. In there day time looks, Chris, Jess and Kev spend some time together on the rooftop terrace.”

photographer: Alvelyn Alko

“WILD!”

photographer: Courtney Bell

“My friends are ridiculous, and I love them.”

Totally in love with Joseph Knight's photograph. Truly candid street fashion snapshot that follows a young woman taking a journey in the city streets at night. Beautiful composition and muse, reminiscent of a young Brigitte Nielsen.
