K. Tighe loves Abe’s Penny

For those of us old enough to remember the days before cell phones — the days when catching up with geographically distant friends meant writing letters (you know, those pieces of paper you write on and stuff into an envelope that then travels around and around before ending up at your friend’s doorstep three days later), Abe’s Penny is bringing the excitement back into our empty mailboxes.

Brainchild of sisters Anna and Tess Koebel, Abe’s Penny: A Micro-Magazine isn’t exactly a magazine at all. It’s a series of postcards that arrive one by one once a week. The postcards are a monthly collaboration between a writer and a photographer, and each set of four tells a continuous story.

Never mind the fact that the postcards are sweet keepsakes with pretty photos and oddly engaging stories despite their Twitter-esque character limits; the thrill of finally getting something worthwhile in the mail is worth the subscription price.

K. Tighe is the Venus Zine Editor-in-Chief.
