It seems that every marginalized group wants its own version of pornography — punks, gays, lesbians, straight indie-rock chicks. But for those who want all of the above, there’s Lickety Split. Editor, photographer, and aspiring pornographer Amber Goodwyn publishes a zine that’s dedicated to creating a place for exploring sexuality through its various incarnations.
Artfully fun photos of naked or near nude men and women appear throughout the third issue of Lickety Split (erect penis, anyone?). But the writing lacks a pornographic focus, which may or may not be Goodwyn’s intention. Many of the stories and essays barely mention sex at all, though “C is for Camaro” and “I’m Thinking About Your Cock While Stroking My Own” definitely fall into the category of erotica.
Goodwyn’s other purpose is to inform, as she does in her guide to becoming a nude photographer and/or model ("Bravery in Front of, and Behind, a Camera”), her interview with SuicideGirls’ Montreal photographer, Sharon Davies, and her article on Stella, a Montreal-based community group that aids sex workers. So far, the educational angle of Lickety Split is the zine’s strong point.
