This monthly Web zine about the comics industry is run by women and focuses on the role of female comic-book writers and graphic novelists. Loaded with interviews, articles, columns like “Read This or Die” and “Fantastic Firsts,” and reviews, it’s a great forum for ladies in a community that oftentimes seems like a boys’ club.
The July issue contains fun and informative features. Wolfen Moondaughter rants about being a grocery-store bagger. Rebecca Henley argues that the genre of animé containing relationships between male humans and female robots reinvents the Pygmalion story — the creation of the perfect woman. The reviews of comics, animé, manga, TV, and movies can get on the nerdy side at times, detailing storyline structure and drawing technique, and definitely seem geared toward serious comic collectors and artists rather than casual readers.
Sequential Tart is a comprehensive niche Web zine that provides a necessary service to ladies who love comics.
