My first distinct memory of a Miyazaki animated film is watching Kiki’s Delivery Service in my seventh-grade English class and being completely enamored with it. Lo and behold, several years later a friend turned me onto Spirited Away and I couldn’t help but think back to seventh grade. Miyazaki’s impeccably crisp artwork, along with endlessly kooky creatures and plot lines, is unmistakable. While most Japanese animation, or anime, is considered geeky by mainstream America, Miyazaki seems to have transcended the stereotype when his last movie, Howl’s Moving Castle, made its American, big screen debut in selected cities in 2005. Not only that, but stars like Jena Malone, Billy Crystal and Batman himself, Christian Bale, were cast for voiceovers in the American edition
Now then, who wants to buy me Miyazaki's box set for the holidays?
