Recently discovered near the Danube Valley in Germany, a Paleolithic Venus bust is re-writing history books in regard to the complexity and context of ancient art.
Measuring in at less than 2.5", the tiny Venus has enlarged breasts, an engorged belly and bloated thighs which make the bust an apparent sexual symbol.
Archaeologists are in a frenzy over the sexually aggressive sculpture as it predates the cultural importance of the female form by 5,000 years. Prior to this Venus discovery, female imagery during the Paleolithic period was completely unknown.
The discovery showcases how Venus has been playing an important role in the evolution of our species for over 35,000 years. Ladies, I say we make it 35,000 more.
Emily Ransom is a Venus Zine writer.
