I guess you can call me nostalgic, but I really enjoy watching Cory Matthews and his quirky gang–Shawn Hunter, Eric Matthews, and Topanga Lawrence–grow up on TV, again! I can’t help but relive my childhood when ABC Family plays reruns of Boy Meets World.
Not only do I love being reminded of all the little details that made the show so awesome to begin with (Eric’s "Feeny call," for instance), but now that I'm older, probably too old, I watch the show on a completely different level. In the later seasons particularly, there are more mature one-liners that I never caught as a kid. I feel like I’ve been let in on the show’s private jokes.
That said, I’ve also started to notice some of the show’s inconsistencies. For example, as Eric gets older he also seems to get dumber—a lot dumber. And Topanga was a very odd child (channeling dead spirits, speaking made-up languages). Plus, it seems Cory did not always love her. And finally, the actor who ends up playing the youngest Matthews sibling also had a minor role as a completely different character on the previous season.
But despite that, the reruns remind me exactly why I originally became a fan: The show never fails to make fun of itself. It produced some memorable moments through its own self-awareness, like when Cory tells his baby brother, “Mr. Feeny will probably teach you every grade you’ll ever be in.” During another episode, the gang of friends see a childhood classmate for the first time in many seasons, they remark that their friend has been “over there” (the part of the school that’s perpetually off camera)!
More than just the obvious gags, the engaging drama, and the dynamic characters, Boy Meets World is a show that has another layer of subtle humor. Most importantly, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

One of the show's storylines, that I loved, was Angela and Shawn's relationship. Although they were an interracial couple, the writers never made it a big issue. When you saw them on tv, you believed that they were a real couple.
