Carolyn Babbitt Loves The 10th Kingdom

When miniseries The 10th Kingdom was first aired on TV, I was instantly hooked. I was about 13 at the time, and I was drawn to the idea of a fantasy world that consisted of the fairy tales I had been hearing all of my life. Ten years later, The 10th Kingdom is still on my favorites list and it's something I constantly recommend.

It tells the story of a girl, Virginia, who with the company of a clumsy and forgetful father, a prince who was turned into a dog, and a half-man/half-wolf who cannot control his animal urges, accidentally slips into into a different dimension.

The 10th Kingdom is not only entertaining, but also possesses surprisingly feminist undertones. In each of the different kingdoms the clan finds themselves in, they encounter a strong female character has transformed the world and the people with her courage. The stories of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood are re-told throughout, showing how powerful each of those ladies are as they overcome difficult obstacles. The miniseries manages to squeeze in fantasy, drama, comedy, and romance, too.

I was 20 but still young enough to love the new twist on the fairytales I knew when I was younger! Has to be one of the best, if not the best mini series I have seen and was right up my street. I am still hoping they continue it with the same cast and crew, well we've waited this long what's another ten years? :)
