I started editing Venus Zine’s DIY section at the same time that my co-workers and I at the Compai Design Studio were cutting, tying, and sewing the nights away working on our third book, 99 Ways to Cut, Sew, Tie and Rock Your Scarf (Potter Craft).
During that time I met Jen Ng (Venus Zine's DIY photo editor) and was struck by her colorful and funky style. This project, "#40 'Jen,'" was inspired by her, and that is why, out of the book’s 99 kick-ass projects, I wanted to post this project. This one’s for you, Jen!
TOOLS & SUPPLIES
• two old scarves — one square scarf and one oblong.
• sewing machine
HERE WE GO
1. Cut a diagonal slit in the center of the scarf (make sure that it is big enough to fit around your bust).
2. Cut a strip lengthwise from the oblong scarf that is 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) wide.
3. Cut that strip in half lengthwise.
4. Using a sewing machine, zig-zag stitch around the slit in the square scarf.
5. Sew the strip onto the front of the slit in the center as shown (make sure to leave space for armholes).
6. Repeat with the other strip in back.
7. Sew front and back strips together, as shown, creating the shoulder straps.
8. Use the leftover strip of oblong scarf as a belt and tie in front.
