Everyone has that friend — or isthat friend — with the knack to knock out hip-looking jewelry, stitch stylish purses, or somehow create wonders out of yarn, felt, and a few scraps of fabric.
Jenny Kwok’s online shop Cut + Paste ties these talented indie-crafting types and D.I.Y. designers together into one easy-to-browse online shop. In the summer of 2002, Kwok started looking online to consign some things she had made. “I couldn't find a site that sold cool, affordable, and useful crafts,” she explains. “So I just started doing what I had been looking for.”
In the two years since its conception, Cut + Paste has blossomed, currently boasting a roster of more than 35 various consigners, a.k.a. Partners in Craft. The list includes consigners who have been with Cut + Paste from the beginning: b.kao (girly-knit neckwarmers and scarves) and Turddemon (quirky felt dolls), and new designers are constantly being added. Some of the most recent additions include YeYe Bags’ colorful concoctions of ribbon and fabric and Reinvintage’s stylish reincarnations of vintage gear.
“My customers tell me that they love the ever-changing variety of products,” says Kwok. “They get to learn about new designers they don't usually hear about or see.” To see for yourself, visit cutxpaste.com.
