skill level: sophomore
total cost: $15
Supplies
• magazines and junk mail to shred (colorful pages work best)
• clear vinyl fabric (about $5 per yard)
• backing fabric of your choice (use scrap fabric or buy new fabric for about $10 per yard)
Tools
• paper shredder (about $29.99)
Go to it
1. Cut two squares or rectangles — one with the vinyl and the other with the backing fabric (leaving one-half inch seam allowance).
2. Using a sewing machine, sew around three sides of the fabric (with the brighter side of the backing fabric face down). On the fourth side, sew one-third of the way up the side, and turn pillow inside out.
3. Using the shredder, shred your magazines, colored paper, and junk mail until you have enough to fully stuff the pillow.
3. Hand stitch the fourth side to close the pillow.
Note: Packing peanuts work well as stuffing too.
