Body Talk Pt. 2 (Konichiwa/Cherrytree/Interscope)

Somebody alert the authorities, this album is a statement of intent: a speaker-pounding, dance-inciting, all-out synth pop declaration that Robyn has never stopped partying. Body Talk Pt. 2 isn’t a mere continuation of the first part. This album has a dirtier, sweatier aesthetic than its predecessor; it’s sexier and ready to be bumped at a club near you. The electrified version of “Hang With Me” maintains the intimacy of the acoustic version found on Pt. 1 while immediately becoming dance floor-friendly, and there may be no more danceable track than “Love Kills,” which stands out in a way “Dancing on My Own” or “With Every Heartbeat” have previously.
The über-blonde Swede lets her California Gurl peers know she can do pop music better than they can, and she does it with the help of the one and only Snoop Dogg. Though his other notable collaboration may have reached number one domestically, “U Should Know Better” feels more like vintage, chart-topping Snoop. His husky voice perfectly matches Robyn’s vocal presence and synth-heavy rhythms.
Body Talk Pt. 2 is every bit as good as the first installment and, in many ways, better. This record is bad news for anyone making pop music not named Robyn, because at this rate, Pt. 3 might just be the best pop album of the year.
