Just in time for summer is Ponytail’s sophomore release, Ice Cream Spiritual (We Are Free, June 17). The pop-punk Baltimore quartet (drummer Jeremy Hyman, guitarist Dustin Wong, guitarist Ken Seeno, and vocalist Molly Siegel) has been racking up live-show-hero points for its exuberant, high-energy performances and drawing musical comparisons to X-Ray Spex, the Slits, and noise rocker Yoko Ono. Here, Ponytail suggests four more cool treats for overheated music fans.

Cex
Dannibal (Must Finish)
I first heard this album in the winter, and it was like a warm coal heating up bleak days. But now that summer has rolled in it feels like a blazing fire, and I am dancing around it wildly.
Dustin Wong
Electric Light Orchestra
Time (Columbia Records)
These dudes are amazing masters of pop. This album just gives me a jolt of optimism and energy — totally an airbrushed landscape, toothpaste surfing!
Ken Seeno
The Lucky Dragons
Widows (Status Rights)
This album is as satisfying and fleeting as a blurry summer memory. I often lose track of the songs as the melodies wash over me.
Molly Siegel
The Slits
Cut (Koch Records)
This is a great summer album. It moves like a marching band, swinging back and forth in a lazy hammock. Ari-Up's cat call sends me soaring.
