5 minutes with the Cool Kids' Chuck Inglish

When Venus Zine last talked with hip-hop duo the Cool Kids, the buzz around them was building, even though they hadn't yet released their debut, The Bake Sale EP (Chocolate Industries). Since the record was released in June, they've been touring nonstop, playing headlining shows and the Rock The Bells tour.

We caught up with Cool Kid Chuck Inglish (real name Evan Ingersoll) on the balcony of Chicago's Hard Rock Hotel on Friday before they rocked the BMI stage that evening.

Who are you gonna check out this weekend?

The crazy thing is that I won't really have an opportunity to because we're outta here after the show.

Where are you headed next?

New York for Rock The Bells, but I will stay around and I will watch Radiohead and that will be fun.

You guys have been touring like crazy over the summer — do you have any fun stories from the road?

To be perfectly honest, the coolest stuff that happens to us are things we say to each other because we're gone so much and once you get in a certain pattern, like partying is just not the thing to do, or leaving the hotel 'cause you don't wanna have to be struggling at the airport, so when we get a little bit better at it, the stories will get better, but … we're definitely some hilarious characters and if you had a camera on us you would laugh all day.

Which artist who's performing this weekend do you think would throw the best basement party?

I'm gonna have to say probably Rage Against The Machine, 'cause if you had a basement and you said, 'I got Rage Against The Machine in my basement,' some shit is getting fucked up in that basement. Things are getting moved.

Is this your biggest Chicago show so far?

Yeah, this is definitely the biggest Chicago show.

What are you expecting from the crowd?

I just want a whole bunch of people here, that's it.
