I have to admit that, prior to receiving this album, I had never heard of Lynn Miles. She is well-known in Canada, having released two previous CDs, and on her latest she works again with longtime collaborator Ian Lefeuvre.

After repeated listening I realized I had discovered a gorgeously intoxicating album. Lynn Miles' mellifluous vocals wash over you like a warm summer rain, both moody and comforting at the same time. Her often melancholy lyrics are a combination of confessional poetry and straight storytelling that are always genuine and never maudlin. If forced to plug this CD into a category, which does it an injustice, I would say it is country/folk, but really it is a rich tapestry woven delicately of part Lucinda Williams, part Mark Lanegan, and a smidgen of the Cowboy Junkies.

Although this release is difficult to find in the U.S., you should seek it out by visiting www.lynnmiles.com. This is a record that will clearly stand the test of time.
