Le Tigre

Remix 12-inch

For all their popularity and influence on a generation of angry young women, I have to admit that I never really dug Bikini Kill. To my ears, their songs weren't hooky enough to stay in your head or loud enough to be raging punk anthems. That's why I was downright gleeful when former BK singer Kathleen Hanna starting setting her feminist lyrics to synthesizers and drum machines in pop songs, first as Julie Ruin, then with Le Tigre.

A new remix EP (available on vinyl as of February 19 and released on CD on May 14) takes the transformation one step further. The EP comprises reinterpretations of six songs from Le Tigre's previous releases by DJs Analog Tara, Swim with the Dolphins, Ham & Cheese on Rye, Reid Speed, Tim Goldsworthy & James Murphy, and Lauren Flax. Tara and Flax, like Le Tigre, performed at Ladyfest Midwest Chicago last year.
