These tracks were made for running, literally. Originally commissioned by Nike in 2006 for their original Run Series, LCD Soundsystem's 45:33 was conceived by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, the disco-punk-funk meister who when given the opportunity to create a refreshing soundscape with no commercial restraints, such as this catchy, album-length symphonic workout, proves that his shoelaces should never be tied.
45:33, is, you guessed it, 45 minutes and 33
seconds long, and although it's a few different tracks mixed together into one,
it clearly has two parts. The first part has six untitled tracks and can be
described as a warm-up; musically speaking, you'll hear gentle beats, delicate
piano keys, and smooth synths gliding across layer upon layer of utter aural
appeasement. Okay, at this point, you'll be well beyond running (or dancing) to
the catchy beats and can take it up a notch or two in the funk department.
Enter part two: the cardio workout. At this interval, where the funk meets disco
claps, you should have small beads of sweat on your forehead as you move to
pace making beats. Get ready for more instrumental explorations, and smooth,
motivational vocals with three bonus tracks after the 45 minutes and 33 seconds are over.
Grab your towel, you made it! 45:33 was
exclusively available for runners on iTunes, but is now available on CD and
double vinyl. LCD Soundsystem fans and music lovers everywhere, do yourselves a
favour: run out and get this album!
